KOLKATA: A passenger, who arrived here on Sunday by a Bangladesh Biman flight with fever and other complications was immediately segregated by a team of doctors at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on suspicion of suffering from SARS.

The doctors after necessary examination of the passenger, J Ahmed (25), at the airport, sent him to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in the city with an advice to house him there till his blood samples were tested.

The man, who had given his residential address in Watgunj area of the city, had visited Hong Kong a fortnight ago, airport sources said.

From there, he came to Kolkata via Dhaka, the sources said.

The airport authorities have taken strict measures with a view to checking spread of SARS. A number of booths manned by doctors have been opened up for examination of incoming passengers, particularly from Asian countries, with special emphasis being given on the health records of the passengers from SARS-infected areas.

Fogging and spraying an anti-viral liquid with a gun was also continuing at regular intervals daily.
